Toa are a fictional species of cyborg warriors from the Lego toy series Bionicle. Constructible Lego sets depicting Toa were marketed as the main toys of the franchise, with new sets released regularly throughout its original 2000–10 run and 2015–16 reboot.
In the theme's original story, the Toa are heroic beings of great power (usually depicted in teams of six) whose duty is to protect their villager-like counterparts, the Matoran, from danger and maintain peace throughout their universe. Certain Matoran are destined to become Toa after their dormant Toa Power is activated. Once they have completed their destiny, a Toa can choose to sacrifice their power and transform into a Turaga (an elder who typically governs Matoran). Each Toa represents an element and has the ability to create, manipulate and absorb it, for which they normally use a set of a tools to channel. Each also wear a Kanohi, a mask that grants them specific powers.
In the theme's rebooted story, the Toa are six element-powered heroes from the stars who are summoned to the island of Okoto to save the inhabitants from the schemes of Makuta and his minions. Similar to the original story, the Toa wear Great Masks of Power and carry tools to channel their elemental energies.
